"Open Source and the Enterprise: Finding Focus in Turbulent Times"
As the engines of global economic growth finally start to accelerate, the key question facing businesses, governments, and entrepreneurs today is simple:
What now?
While traditional software vendors scramble to recover and remain relevant, the Open Source ecosystem offers a dizzying array of fresh and ever-expanding products and solutions. Even though world markets paused in 2008 and 2009, the creative vitality underlying Open Source continued to surge with fresh ideas, compelling visions, and unimaginable opportunities.
In the midst of all this change, OSSPAC 2010 speakers will provide engineers, managers, government officials, students, and entrepreneurs with thought-provoking tools and strategies to help them navigate through these confusing times.
We are therefore looking for papers that serve twin purposes:
1. Highlight a specific Open Source technology or trend in enterprise or business applications (this definitely includes real world case-studies!)
2. Provide clear and useful information on how best to utilize it to achieve your organizational goals.
Sessions must relate to free and open source software and will be subjected to approval by the speaker selection committee. Presentations should fall into one of the following categories:
THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
What do you need to know how to do now that the world economy is once again beginning to hit on all cylinders? As you plan your career, which technologies should you embrace, and which should you leave behind?
BEYOND "INTERESTING"
Reveal and describe the application and technologies that have moved beyond the "that’s interesting" phase into business-ready. For example, has Social Media finally reached the game-breaker stage? Or now that Android has hit store shelves, should it affect your Enterprise strategy? Tell us what’s moved beyond interesting to "take it to the bank" status.
MAKING IT WORK RIGHT NOW
Bring your best and brightest ideas for getting the right things done the right way. We want practical, real-world examples of proven strategies that increase reliability, improve security, reduce development costs, and get high performance, quality solutions out the door and into the hands of customers.
Topic ideas can and should emerge from across the Open Source spectrum — Linux, SQL, Python, Rails, Java, PHP, Web 2.0, Cloud Computing, and more. In addition, we’re interested in success stories associated with improvements in development tools, agile project management, and new business strategies.
You can present proposals for a breakout session (30 minutes) – present your views or case study on any of these categories. We will also accept topics for 5 minute lightning talks, 90 minute mini-tutorials, and in-depth 3 hour tutorial sessions/workshops.
Please be clear about your experience and the projected knowledge level of your audience: Novice, Intermediate, or Expert. Keep in mind that we look for a balance of all three experience levels when determining the conference schedule.
OSSPAC can assist to offset some breakout speaker airfare compensation, up to $250, except for those speakers associated with sponsorships. OSSPAC does offer a full conference pass to all speakers, except lightning talks.
