  • The Backbone of Everything – Building Storage Solution From Single Hard Disk to the Cloud

    Biography
Yang got to know about the philosophy about open source back in 1997 with the essay “The Cathedral & The Bazaar” and later book “Open sources: Voices from the Open Source Revolution”. Before, He has only known closed source software, started from BASIC, C and later he was working on his high school’s MIS with them. He succeeded in producing working software with well-capsuled APIs and nice interface but still frustrated in not seeing the “whole source” to know how it works, and to fix the bugs and expand functionality of the framework.
Yang later studied mechatronics in the university, did programming for various devices and robots, also several e-commerce websites. Later he started his PhD study in computational structural biology, when he actively engaged with high performance computing, scientific computing and data, and he posted frequently in mailing list, forum, source code repository and wiki. Most of them have been about open source software.
The world has been undergoing transformation by PC and software. Yang was lucky to grow in this era that software has become ubiquitous and openness has been observed where software have landed.
